About DSMEE

The Dublin Society of Model and Experimental Engineers (DSMEE for short) is a hobby club based in Marlay Park, Dublin that exists to promote and support model engineering as a hobby by providing facilities, resources, knowledge and advice to interested and like-minded people.

Our facilities at Marlay Park are open to members throughout the year, usually on Tuesdays and Saturdays, although there are breaks in the summer due to the concerts that take place in the park, and during the winter around Christmas time.

During winter-time, the bulk of equipment and infrastructure maintenance is carried along, along with talks or demonstration by members on subjects relating to the hobby.

During the summer, we are primarily busy with providing our free miniature train rides to kids.

Each day is an opportunity to meet fellow members, and an opportunity to work on the Society’s facilities and use the Society's workshop.

Many or our modellers have not had any formal engineering training but have been encouraged and supported by fellow members to develop their interest. Our members come from many trades, professions and backgrounds. The goal of the Society is to provide a social setting for like-minded hobbyists - not just from Dublin, but from all over Ireland and beyond. The Society is in regular contact with fellow railways in Ireland and Northern Ireland and visits are exchanged on a regular basis.

DSMEE is organised and managed by a committee comprising directors and officers who are elected annually by the members at the Annual General Meeting (AGM). New members are always welcome. The Contact page above gives details regarding contacting the Society if you wish to join, or if you just want to see our activities and facilities.
